The NASOWG Project
Minorities in the Sciences

This project was initiated to illustrate to young people that, contrary to what our science text books and popular culture may espouse, scientists do not fit a standard mold. White Europeans do not hold a market on curiosity about the world about them, nor do they have more innate scientific ability.  Science presents opportunities to both sexes and to all races, ages and physical abilities, though many of the examples on this site illustrate the challenges that many members of minorities face while pursuing their scientific interests. We hope this site inspires young people to reach for the stars, the atoms or the microscope, if that is where their interests lie.
