Linux is Stable

When was the last time you heard someone say their Windows machine was running great. You don't hear it often. Linux has a great track record of being able to run constantly without a hitch. Where Windows uptime is measured in days, Linux uptime is measures in months and years.

Linux also is less vulnerabe to malware. Not becuase it holds less market share and less malware is written for it, but becuase it is built to be more secure. The methods for security used by Linux are time tested and have been worked on by many brilliant people over the years.

Linux is Free

Being open source software, Linux is both free of cost and free of traditional software license agreements.

You may download Linux from the Internet for no cost. If you are stuck with a slow connection there are sites devoted to selling Linux CDs for a very nominal cost.

Linux is licensed under the GPL. This means that anyone is free to view, edit, and modify the source code. If you want to change it, and you know how, you can. This is important to companies because they can make changes to Linux to suit their needs, instead of making their needs fit the software.

Linux is Uber-Customizable

Since the source to a Linux system is open, you can change your environment to your wants and needs. This is a major tenet behind most open source software. With the addition of other open source software to Linux, you can't beat the possibilities with proprietary products.

Linux Runs On Everything

Linux runs on almost every type of hardware. Intel, AMD, PPC, Alpha, Sparc, you name it and Linux is most likely available for it. This allows for different type of computers to run the same operating environment and do so at no cost.
